For its upcoming season FestiVita! Brussels Early Music Festival launches a new concept called “Première”: five selected ensembles will participate in the festival performances on February 18th and 19th 2023.
Requirements to participate:
Performing forces: Singers and/or period instruments as soloists, in duet, trio or quartet. Three keyboard instruments will be available (harpsichord, Positiv organ, fortepiano).
Age: Limit is 35 years
Concert: Saturday, 18 February 2023 in the afternoon: thirty minutes total of which five minutes for presentation of the program/research project in English, French, or Dutch.
Lunch–concert: Sunday, 19 February 2023 between 12:30pm and 3:00pm: ten minutes from the concert to be played again during a lunch-concert around the topic of the Grand Tour.
Fee: €500 gross salary, including VAT for each musician + travel expenses.
Program: Around the Grand Tour and the most visited cities along the journey: Verona, Milan, Turin, Venice, Bologna, Rome, Naples, Catania, Palermo, but also locations of departure or cities on the way to these Italian centers such as Paris, Lyons, Basle, Munich, Innsbruck, Lisbon, Seville, even Istanbul! The project should integrate original research in terms of repertoire and/or organology, ideally connected to one or more of the cities mentioned above. Be creative!
Application: e-mail you project to . It should include a ten-minute video of the proposed program, as well as a two-minute spoken presentation without interruptions or editing. Applications deadline: December 15th, 2022.
Selection: A jury will watch all videos and select five ensembles.
Selection criteria are: quality of the musical performance and of the spoken presentation, originality of the program as it relates to the topic of the Grand Tour, and organological (instrumental) consistency.
